| VIZIO and LG: AUO lands 65-inch naked-eye 3D TV panels |

AU Optronics (AUO) has landed orders for 65-inch naked-eye full HD 3D TV panels from LG Electronics and Vizio, with combined shipments to the two companies to reach 100,000 units, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report. AUO declined to comment on individual clients.
Shipments of 3D products, including 55- and 65-inch panels for TV applications, 15.6-inch panels for notebooks, and 24-inch panels for AIO (all-in-one) PCs, will account for 20% of AUO's total shipments in 2012 compared to 7% in 2011, the paper said. In other news, AUO's board of directors has approved an additional budget of NT$8.236 billion (US$278.4 million) to upgrade and develop technologies for the production of flat panels for tablet PCs, smartphones and 3D TVs, according to a company filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).The company also noted that its expenditure for fixed assets reached NT$56.92 billion in 2011. AUO also announced plans to increase its investment in its 100%-owned subsidiary AFPD in Singapore by US$150 million in installments.
